How do we rise to the occasion with constructive intent and action?

In the midst of our day-to-day responsibilities, gas and food prices have been rising, covid variants continue to emerge, political chaos and divides persist, as does war and destruction in Ukraine. We face rights we’ve come to rely on being taken away, senseless, horrific murders perpetrated by sick individuals who have gotten their hands on weapons while we struggle to protect our children. What can each of us do to put things “right” when we no longer seem to share the same values as to what is right? How do we rise to the occasions we are presented with, with constructive intent and action? How do we turn towards each other, towards our human decency, increase our moral courage, our kindness, our compassion, our empathy? How do we build bridges of understanding with one another that allow us to act from the better angels of our nature? Let each of us do what we can, at work, at home, let us each close our eyes at the end of a day and be able to say – I was kind here, I helped here, I didn’t react negatively when I would have before, I listened to my child in a non-judgmental way, I helped my colleagues find the right solution, I encouraged and inspired my team as they faced a difficult challenge, I made it safe to have that difficult conversation – and when it comes time to use the power of our vote, let us vote for a world that ensures each of us the chance to truly thrive.
